1) Using newspapers, Internet and other sources find a story (no more than five lines, you can also post the link) on a useless entity, answering the following questions: What is the name of the entity? Why is it useless, unproductive? Why is it still surviving?

ReplyDeleteSo the reason why Blackberry is not really handling staying productive in the market is that it can´t adapt to the other new companies such as Apple, for example, which tries to produce new products day by day ( ipods, ipads, iphones) which will meet the human needs. So maybe managers of BlackBerry have some new ideas but they definitely make the wrong choices which lead to their downfall and that´s why smartphones are now more productive than the BlackBerry.

ReplyDeleteARSEA is an entity (non-business) controlled by the Italy and by Europe that must to provide sicilian factors of funds (in money) made available by the parliament of Europe. In last years it didn't observe its duty. As a matter of fact,even if its public dirigents cashed a very high salary in last years, the activity of ARSEA has been blocked from eight years. Althought its uselessness ARSEA is still surviving,maybe for political agreements between the Italian state and sicilian region.
I found also another article on an useless entity in Italy: CONSORZIO ANAGRAFI ANIMALI,liquidated in last months.

ReplyDeleteAn example of a public entity that is (and will be) useless till 2020 is the "Aran". It is a public agency which negotiate the terms of the employment for the new public employees with the labour union. It is unproductive because the public administration won't have the money to hire new employees till 2020.
It is still surviving because some politicians said that in the future it will be useful again.

Few years ago and in particular in 2008, Myspace was the most famous social network that allowed people to create pages, blogs and to make them connect with other users. By the born of Facebook Myspace started a long decline due to the better services that the competitor offered; moreover wrong choices of the managers led the azienda to lose its users. When Facebook replaced definitively Myspace, the managers of Myspace started to blackmail inactive users telling them that their photos were back again on their Myspace profile, so that people that wanted to delete these photos had to get back on their site. Nowadays Myspace is undoubtedly outmoded and is surviving thanks to some exlusive services like music streaming, but it is disturbed by another azienda (Spotify).

ReplyDeleteAn example of an entity that is useless and largely in decline is Blockbuster Video. It is a American based home video rental company, that as the height of their success ran 9000 stores but now only 50 remain. Basically they are in decline because more comfortable options like Netflix have replaced them. And also there are more tv´s now a days that have an inbuilt live streaming service, that makes a trip to the video store obsolete. But the brand is still surviving because there are still certain users that are loyal and find a trip to the video store nostalgic.

A private website that only one person can enter the site - dubbed 'World's Most Exclusive website' - at any one time, and they are only allowed to spend 60 seconds inside. Hundreds of people queue to enter the website and thousands of tickets have been issued. It is quite useless as according to the owner, it defies the basic features of internet. “The Internet was designed to be open and accessible; what if I made a website that was the antithesis of one of the defining qualities of the Internet". It has been surviving solely because of human curiosity and the branding (World's most exclusive website) that encourages people to wait hours or days just to enter and see what the website is. However in terms of productivity it is not productive at all, as it was built on an idea that violates the basic principles of open access on internet.

ReplyDeleteThe Sbarro company are selling italian food and was very successful few years ago but had alot of criticize about the food and this what led to bankruptcies. I think the company still surviving because now they have only few branches so they can more focus on the quality of the food.

ReplyDeleteI'd like to focus my attention to a useless public entity furnished and financed by the italian governement and its taxpayers called ONFA (Opera Nazionale per i figli degli Aviatori); this organization, managed by the italian aviation and financed by the Ministry of Interior, provides an helpdesk support and a psychological, physical, intellectual and religious assistance for the heirs of the aviation officers. Actually in this troublesome situation of crysis and recession the Italian Governement should erase this entity in order to save public money and addressing it to the public spending.
Millionshort.com is a search engine that cuts out the top million results, so if you actually need to look for something it'll be completely useless for your research. It is still surviving probably because lots of people use it as a fun place to discover interesting and obscure search results that you typically won't find anywhere else.

ReplyDeleteEnit is the Italian National Agency of tourism that last year spent more than one hundred thousand euros for useless things like newspaper because they said that they had to increase the image of our country but in the end they just spend our money to pay their wages. For many people this agency represents a big waste of money because they don't satisfy our need to increase tourism in our country. It is still surviving because the State won't eliminate it.

ReplyDeleteUNLA "Unione Nazionale per la Lotta contro l'Analfabetismo" is a useless economic entity. According to Istat, analfabetism in 1967 regards only the 8.7% of Italian population and going on with years in 2011 only 1% . As the survey says, analfabetism is a problem just for a small part of the population and for this reason UNLA is a useless entity. It might be still in activity, even if it miraculously survived to the State cuts, because this entity has annually a positive amount of entries, even if in a small quantity.

ATAC is a useless economic entity, because it doesn't create value for the stakeholders and is constantly in debt with the State and the banks. They don't have the money to pay their employees wages and their services are really bad. ATAC continues to survive because its balance fails are paid by the State.

The useless business I'm going to say something about is the "Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca per gli Alimenti e la Nutrizione" (INRAN), founded in 1936, as a Biology Institute. This company is meant to make researches upon food and nutrition. Opening the homepage of its website, it is visible that the last "news" can be traced back to 2013 and this is a reason why I think it is useless. In fact, I suppose that if the organization still exists and has not been closed down yet, it is thanks to the taxes we pay to the State, that manage to finance it, and also thanks to those who still believe in this (in my opinion) worthless authority.

"ICE" (Istituto per il Commercio Estero) is a useless non-business entity that aims not only on the internationalization of Italian companies but also on attracting foreign companies in Italy. It cuold be useful fifty/sixty years ago when globalization was at the beginning, but now it still surviving thanks to an extreme attempt of the government, and its service is obsolete.

The Name of the entity is icq. the icq is an israelian production. the icq is an instant messaging computer program that was developed in 1996. this application/ pc program is useless because there is new applications on the market that help contact between people that they are more ahead from icq. icq has started as a pc program and then it was transferred into the mobile phones, but until that one arrived, the WhatsApp was already taking place in the application market. in the eye of the users, icq was too old to be used. it still surviving because there is people that still using in this application, but I think that until the end of 2019 the company will not survive anymore because its been used by teenagers and Russians (!) I remember icq when I was a teenager, and yes it was a Hugh success back than, but the times have changed, and also today you have the application even in pc and not just in mobile phones.
ReplyDeleteI think the after-sale services of Apple is a useless entity.Because when our telephone something gets wrong ,we have to go to the after-sale services of Apple,but,maybe they only tell you to remain your information before it is repaired .That this case,for the customers ,why not go to the Maintenance Center of APPLE directly ?So, i consider that it does not have many useful function as a entity.Thus,for APPLE,the after-sale services can link the customers to APPLE well .That's why the after-sale services of APPLE is unproductive but surviving .

ReplyDeleteThese organizations that I think is useless nowadays does not really have a specific name. They are organizations/shops only selling tickets for trains or airplanes. Because to buy a ticket, one should be there in person. it's useless because as the online technology is improving everyday and everywhere, no one needs to be at these organizations in person (i.e. physically). and it's just a waste of time and and it costs to pay the workers of this organization, hoping that someone will get in and buy a ticket.
ReplyDeleteBut they still work and they've survived because not all people know how to use internet. The percentage of those who do not use internet is few, but anyway, they are there and their needs must be satisfied.
A good example of a useless organization is ARSEA (Agenzia Regionale Siciliana per le Erogazioni in Agricoltura). It's a public administration born in 2006 that since then has never been activated: it actually never worked. This public administration receives funds of about 800 thousands dollars per year, stealing away people's money in order to do nothing. It's still open because Sicily's governor can't make up his mind and can't close it, but we all know that in reality ARSEA is still open because of protectionism reasons.

ReplyDeleteThe useless entity i know is Lentuo(a automobile sales & service company).This year Lentuo business in trouble, because the explanation given by the company is not working funds. But in my opinion, because the company sold the vehicle quality problems, and service can not make customer satisfaction. This led directly to the company lost a lot of client resources, indirectly led to the company running problems.

This public entity is responsable of promoting Italian tourism. despite the fact that this doesn't happen, most of the employees earn wages that can reach 17 thousand euros per month. jut in the last year i was spent 5mln euros to pay the employees working in a foreign country.
Tumbrl is a social network, founded in 2007 by David Karp and then sold to Marissa Mayer. It is very loved by young adults in particular in USA, meanwhile Italy is not part of the top 10's tumbrl users. Moreover the companies don't use Tumbrl so much as a publiity platform: just 31\100 have a tumbrl profile. The social network more used are Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or Instagram.

It is also a useless entity because it doesn't have enough funding and a market share anymore . Despite of everything, this bank is surviving because,being a big entity, it still has many customers.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion ,SanLu dairy industry is a useless entity in China.In 2008,a major food safety accidents was occured in this company.This thing caught the attention of the world .It caused a large number of infant deaths.The company produced the milk powder is not good for people's health.So i think SanLu is a useless entity.
Ryanair is a low-cost airline company well known in Europe. Although many people choose every day to fly with this company, Ryanair has one of the highest percentages for customer dissatisfaction. Very cheap prices and many offers to fly to the main european capitals allow this company to be chosen by customers and to survive.

ReplyDeleteCNEL: Consiglio Nazionale Dell'Economia e del Lavoro. This is a public entity that should give opinions at the request or advise the government about the best solutions to be adopted to improve the economy and work in Italy. But it was established in 1957 after the Second World War and it made sense at that time because there were many social groups and there was not a single currency as today. Now there is the European community that has the role that CNEL had years ago. Finally the only reason why this entity is still alive is because of political interests.

ReplyDeleteI think That the useless entity for excellence is the Province. In Italy the provinces are 110. They cost the citizens Italians plus or minus 3 billion euro a year and have no specific utility. In fact, from their budgets it shows that 3/4 of resources is spent on maintaining the Provinces and only 1/4 is invested in services for citizens. There would then be to understand how it is spent that quarter, including committees and contracts (appalti) .. However, provinces are unnecessary because their job (if they have one) can be played by the regions or municipalities. They manage to survive because the political interests that support them in Italy die hard and becuase the Province's lazybones are very comfortable.

Controls found a device that V.W. installed in their car to manipulate emission system without taking care of the environment. ReplyDeleteIn my opinion,the ireader is a useless entity because I can search every novel in it.In another word,I can not get what I want.And if you want to read novels, you must pay for it,which always made me annoyed.What's more,some of the resources are incomplete.However, it has other advantages which make many people like to use it.And at first,it is very useful and famous.So,it still exsit now and has many users now.

ReplyDeleteIstituzione per la Conservazione della Gondola e la Tutela del Gondoliere is a very useless entity. It has been classified among the top 500 useless Italian entities by Codacons. The money that the entity obtains, given by the Italian State, should be used to defend our traditions, but several studies reveal how they are wasting it: i.e. they want to provide services that are already done by “gondolieri” and ferries. Moreover, two years ago they also offered two workplaces but the competition to obtain them, used a strange treatment in the assignment of the final score, helping only those who had already worked for Direzione Finanza, Bilancio e Tributi del Comune di Venezia. ReplyDeleteL'ENTE GONDOLA is an entity who takes place in Venice that looks after the interest of gondoliers. The financial resources that the District gave to this entity, in the last years, were severely reduces (From 850 000 € per year in 2013 to 60 000 € in 2015). Based on the available funds, Ente Gondola will play the role of mere office administrative municipal so it's very useless because the residues tasks could be assigned direct to the District.
The Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB) is another obscure governmental body . Created in 2000, its nine members (actually still two short at seven) were not appointed until 2004, and it was not funded until 2005. Meant to cut down on unnecessary classification, it has to date made no recommendation to declassify anything. Most recently, a Senate attempt to declassify the Intelligence Committee’s report on pre-Iraq war assessments of WMD, including Ahmed Chalabi’s input into them hit a brick wall when members sought to go through the PIDB. The PIDB noted that it could only consider a request to declassify if it originated with the President. If a President classified something and wanted it kept classified, he/she would not make such a request. If the President wanted something declassified, it is unclear why he/she would bother going through the PIDB.

ReplyDeleteIL Corriere Della Sera is one of the principal italian typographies that nowadays are considered useless. The reason why it is unproductive is to refer to the arrival and the spread of technology that minimized its sales. It is still surviving though, because it takes a lot of time to replace such an important tradition, as the reading of newspaper is, especially for the latest generation that was used to read it as the only communication medium around.
According to my opinion a society that is very useless is SRC: Società di committenza Piemonte S.P.A. It is a society of little use because it does not meet any human need or territorial . He manages to survive thanks to government subsidies and regional . After a lot of scandals of "REGIONE PIEMONTE" this body continues to be active in the territory not proving useless .
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, SIAE is a useless entity: its financial statement is always in loss and the services that SIAE provides are not satisfactory. The protection of the copyrights can be completely ensured by the "Guardia di Finanza", thus the SIAE is overlapped to it. Moreover, the controls made by SIAE are rare and are a very small number in comparison with the amount of events where, for example, songs are played and the rights violated. Finally, artists must pay an high fee for being registered in SIAE. SIAE it is still in life thanks to an huge economical help from the State, that pays for its survival about 30 million euros per year.

ReplyDeleteThe "CARBOSULCIS" is an example of a useless entity. It is a coal-mining company in Sardegna that keeps existing thanks to the law which imposes ENEL to burn that coal. It is no more usefuel because the coal is not used like twenty years ago and the entity is in permanent loss. Thus many people belive that the State does not want to close it down beacuse it would face a much bigger problem: all the middle age employees, who have done just one job for all their entire career, would be unemployed.

ReplyDeleteEnit is the name of this useless economic entity (Agenzia nazionale per il Turismo). It can be so defined because all the supplies given by the Government are used to cover the management costs that is to pay the wages of 180 people (directors, leaders). This entity keeps on living because of the personal interest of the shareholders.
To me NOKIA has become useless and unproductive(in technology).In 90's it has produced good products.Now-a-days it is only survivng because of its good will.If they didn't produce quality phones with advance technology,they will get down in market.
ReplyDeleteAccording to researches done by the University of Vermont’s School of Business Administration, Avon Products Inc. is running into failure. Avon's strategy of continuing to sell products through their direct channel and ignoring internet sales doesn’t satisfy anymore the average consumer engulfed in social media and online interactions: people are no longer comfortable buying beauty products from a stranger knocking on their door. It probably still hardly survives because of its products, which are pretty quality and cheap, but not enough to compensate for the lack of effectiveness.

ReplyDeleteAbout six years ago in my neighborhood the construction site of MEDITERRANEUM - L'acquario di Roma was opened by the " Mare Nostrum Romae S.r.l." entity. The project had to be finished in 2013 but nowadays the construction works are still in progress, or rather stationary. 80 million of euros were spent for the realization of this project but the lack of 6,5 million euros caused the works' arrest. The citizens don't know if the aquarium will be opened yet.
I found that the american EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is useless because it is ignoring all the environmental damages and the health effects on the population from events like 9/11 and many others. And, instead of doing what it was created for, it is oppressively investigating on citizens who are supposed to be doing something against the environment. It is still surviving because it annually receives funds from the U.S. (8.5 billion dollars)

ReplyDeleteCNEL (Consiglio Nazionale dell'Economia e del Lavoro) is the useless entity I found. CNEL is an italian unproductive constitutional (art. 99 of the Italian constitution) authority founded in 1957 whose purpose is to provide legal advice to the government and the regions. It absorbs 18 milion euros each year although its functions are now carried out by much more important congregations and authorities that make decisions at European level, so totally obscuring CNEL's legal advice. It is still surviving because some traditional trade unions and corporations still recognize it as an important political authority.

It is called "bandwagon" because it is an entity that spends most of its budget for its entertainment expenses, that no longer has a strategy because even its shareholder (the government) has a plan of action on how to develop tourism .The last failure concerns the promotion of the Expo, where "there are mainly Italian visitors and empty hotels at 50%, with a fame of the event on crucial foreign markets still extremely low." ENIT is like an ATM that finance projects of little cities. ENIT survives beacuse close the institution would mean giving up the money that the state allocates to the sector of tourism.
Eipli (Ente per lo sviluppo dell’irrigazione e la trasformazione fondiaria in Puglia, Lucania e Irpinia) is a useless entity.

It should evaluate the quality of universities, but no one knows it so no one relies upon its evaluations and it costs almost 10 million euros per year. It is still surviving because is a public entity so it receives funds from the State.

ReplyDeleteIn this forum it is explained how useless is the order of engineers in italy and the enrollment to this. It is an order, so an association, that grant the possibility to sign for istance civil projects. I think it is useless because the enrollment costs more or less 120 euros per year. Moreover it is completely useless for all the engineers who work in companies where they do not need this kind of service. E.g. an info. Engineer would never use the service provided by this association. Indeed we can also say that it is not a service, seen that it maybe seems a sort of excuse to let engineers pay for legal working. So it is useless this association and often useless the enrollment to this ( i want to highline that has to be paid)
A useless business entity is The Brebemi spa, an organization oriented to create an highway that had to link Brescia with Milan. It was built to cope with the increasing traffic on the highway A4, which also links Brescia-Milan. The project turned out useless, as few cars drive on it, because of the toll, which is more expensive than the one of A4, and it didn't link Brescia-Milan but Brescia-Liscate. The funds to built it had to be private, instead public contribution was needed. "CIPE" (Comitato interministeriale per la programmazione economica) decided to continue funding and to build a network of roads to incentivize the traffic.

The documents say that this organization uses more than 38 million per year, indicating 417.000 euro as "gross pay", 850.000 euro as "non sanitary purchases", and more than 26 millions as "current transfers to public organizations". His CEO earns more than 190.000 euro per year, and spending all this public money for an entity whit such a task is of course inappropriate. In fact, under Mario Monti's Government it was shut down, but the reason it still exists today is that it was magically re-opened under Letta's government, and nobody still doesn't know why.
An example of a useless entity, that therefore eventually ceased to create value, is the Olivetti S.p.A., an Italian manufacturer of typewriters, computers, tablets and other business products. The Genzano's Hospital is a very useless entity. Every object is antiquate, machinery are old and most of them don't work in the right way. The "Pronto Soccorso" department is not provided to address any emergency case and ambulances are frequently under repair. In the past it was considered a major hospital, but over the years, has been increasingly abandoned. Nowadays, each more specific control or cure slightly more important, you have to move to another hospital, thanks to this, the Genzano's Hospital has become useless. It still survive, thanks to the public funds but the citizen don't understand the utility of this hospital's survival.

An example of useless entity is WISH. It is a smartphone application through which you should be able to buy clothes in a smart and rewarding way. The problem is that in Italy this application is totally useless because: 1. all the sizes of clothes and shoes are written with different metric systems, 2.usually when you buy something you have to wait for 4 of 5 months before they bring it to your house 3. you can’t be repaid if, for instance, the dress is not the same color of the one you payed for. I think it is useless because it has not been converted in an Italian version so t is absolutely unusable.

ReplyDeleteAn useless entity is the Istituto Regionale per le Ville Tuscolane, which has the function of promote, divulge and incentive the knowledge of Ville Tuscolane, besides the maintenance of the structures and also of the gardens. In spite of this entity the ville are often closed or is possible visit them only by appointment. Probably this entity is still alive, because there are many interests and people involved.

ReplyDeleteThe Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB) is governmental body that has no reason to exist. Meant to cut down on unnecessary classification, it has to date made no recommendation to declassify anything. Nobody knows why do PIDB still exist, maybe because it works for the president and for the state, and it isn't possible to remove it.
In the small village were i live, Tuscania, the real unproductive and unsatisfactory entity is the municipal that does not care about the interests of their citizens. For instance we have a public olympic swimming pool that it does not work anymore because the municipal does not want to spend money on it and consequently all the persons,from the youngest to the oldest, have to drive or to catch the public transports to go to the nearby villages and spend money on gas or bus tickets in addition. In my opinion this is unjust and unfortunately this is not the only thing that the municipal neglects. It survives because people with the power work there and other ignorants inhabitants vote them.

ReplyDeleteThe useless enittity mean they can't satisfy the people's need. Nowadays, people don't buy any compact discs( music, movie ) again, they prefer to downloads a music from Internet. And now, many shop of hmv was closed but why it still survive now? Because little of people they for us in quality so they will spend money to buy a compact discs. Unfortunately, if the mangers didn't find other way to solve it , it must be destroyed in long term.
In my opinion an Azienda which is becoming useless and unproductive is Microsoft, they have always provided hi-tech services and software products but they didn't ever concentrate into making own hardware for its software. Nowadays it produces nice goods which are not reliable but most of all those products are not well supported and fashionable. This Azienda is still surviving thanks to its big market share, for its notoriety, for its simplicity and for the plenty of cheap Windows branded products available on the market. I think that without the new CEO "Satya Nadella" the company would have probably already dropped in sales and in customers' fidelity.

ReplyDeleteRecently it has been pointed out the uselessness of S.I.A.E., a public Italian entity which should watch over works covered by copyright and collect a sum of money when the work is used. Yet the entity fails to give the scheduled service, and what it really does is something which could be done by the financial police. To be useful the S.I.A.E should guarantee more controls and ensure the correct sum of money that is due to each author. As many other public entities the S.I.A.E. Is still surviving because of lack of interest in cut it out.
I think that "Ferrovie dello Stato " is a useless economic entity because it manages to satisfy human needs, transporting people on the trains through many regional lines but it doesn't operate with economicità.
ReplyDeleteThe main aspect is the completely absence of a comfortable service, especially for the lack of hygienic procedures or the absence of inspectors or the several delays of the trains.
It can survives only because if it wouldn't exist people couldn't reach other places in order to go to school or for work even if a lot of people don't pay the ticket.
I strongly believe that one of the most useless Italian entity is SIAE (Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori) because it doesn't defend authors and publishers' rights as expected, but, as everyone knows, SIAE collects taxes from all forms of audiovisual representation and then it distributes the money it has earned to few partners of the entity.

Nowadays with the technological advancement, it's a competition against Apple, Samsung , Huawei. Nokia still uses old devices with no newest innovation. The price is more affordable, but the quality. ReplyDeleteThe useless entity that I chose is called Enit “Agenzia nazionale per il Turismo” . It should help the growth of the tourism in Italy but it does not help, rather it just costs 20 million per year. In fact many of its employees can take a salary of about 17.000 Euros. It does not help because it does not promote our country. It is still surviving because even if many and different governments have tried to remove it, it is very strong and in some ways (it has important people inside who do not want to lose their jobs and benefits) it survives.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we could not consider the low-cost airline Ryanair "useless" in the true sense of the term; the company is ran by very bad management, with questionable policies and work ethics (etremely low salaries and short layover time for pilots and staff), which then would collide with the customer satisfaction: as a matter of fact Ryanair (in a SkyNews survey) has only a 66% customer satisfaction, making it one of the worst european companies (just in front of companies such as BT, Vodafone and Scottish Power). Inspite of all this, Ryanair is still running active because many people don't know these facts and are focused on the economic advantage (very low ticket fares)

The Department of Defense (DoD) is a useless entity because with the DoD's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency their projects fall into the “ Black Budget “ secret projects not even subjected to presidential and congressional oversight. DARPA is one of the most dangerous federal agencies to both the economy of the U.S and to world peace. Overall, the DoD as the coordinator for anything that falls under “national security“ is responsible for openly killing millions and eviscerating the constitution. This money, coming from the State, involves also between others the "Ente Gondola". This entity plays in Venice the mere role of administrative office pretending to "care about the job of gondoliere" while everyone knows that there are other national and municipal offices that carries out practices for all different employments all over the city. This entity is clearly useless as stated more than once by Codacons.

I believe that the Go-pro firm is becoming more and more useless. This brand is the "father" of all the modern action cameras, they have started their activities in a monopolistic environment. ReplyDeleteIt is a Bangladeshi television channel which is useless to me. Because they do not broadcast the appropriate news and program for viewers. They do not reach to the needs of viewers. There is no online live streaming for watching this television. But it is surving because still now it has some viewers.
