I think in order to improve the productivity of pencil making the manufacturer should first look into new material, this particular manufacturer is in Germany and its material comes from California. If he could find a supplier closer to home the company could produce at a faster rate. It is a long process then, and as it is the main work of this production, then it should work faster and more printers must be added to the system.

When the olive being cold pressed, the workers are using their hands to layer out the olive on mats and then place them on a pumper machine. I think to increase the productivity in this organization, the environment for the workers should be improved. The workers are in tough work conditions and they should be provided individual work clothes/uniforms, comfortable work shoes and professional hand gloves (hygienic reasons). The organization should invest on machines to cold pressed the olive – so we can minimize the employees. Workers should be educated as needed about the organization and how machines work. A better and positive workplace environment for the workers means more productivity for the company. The organization should use technological machines to harvest the olives so the productivity can increase.

The fact that the primary input comes from the nature we are in a certain sense limited as regards the increase of the production and quality of wine. But, anyway I think that we should train employees to make them experts and build more structures that facilitate the growth of grapes in temperate structures.
Regarding how is made Tabasco, i suggest the company to invest on new machineries that allow to effectuate a faster selection and harvest of the peppers because of its long and hard labour on the field. I also may suggest new barrels for the peppers. Nevertheless i believe that in this firm what really makes the tabasco a great quality product are not the machineries but the human and intellectual capital so the workers knowledge and the ability to select the perfect peppers. Another fundamental factor is the land where the peppers are grown, it needs the right care and manure to achieve the best growth for the peppers. To sum up i think that the company needs to concentrate more on its land and its workers (natural,human and intellectual capital).

In the third blog I talked about the Lego factory. Considering the statistics displayed in the video I agree with their kind of process because the machinaries, which are entirely replacing all the workers in the very first part, can produces 1.7 million of bricks in just one hour. The first part is totally mechanical and human workers are just designated to selection, carriage and sorting. However very often happens that customers find out some flawed pieces in their brand new lego toys. To solve this problem the company could hire new specialized supervisors which can control step by step with an appropriate software the work of the machinaries. This idea could enhance the quality of the product but at the same time could slow down the production, but considering the big numbers offered by the factory should be a little well-considered sacrifice to do.

I talked about “How to make Nutella” and, in my opinion, there is not so much to do to increase their productivity. Maybe they can increase it by controlling all the stages of production and see how many errors are made by man, machines and materials, so that they can intervene and decrease the error.
My personal idea of how Lego could increase its production is to take every month 20 or 30 kids (by the age of 6 to the age of 16) in the studio of the principals designers to discuss with them and understand their wants,their desires and their needs as they represent the main consumers of Lego's products. Maybe it could be a crucial point for the growing of the company.

-Make the container of the grounded meat more higher so the grounded meat wouldn't go away during the grounding, in this way there is 100% exploitation of the meat.
-Spices and any other type of powder are needed to pass through a special tunnel so there is an exploitation of 100% of the ingredients. beside that, containers will be easier to clean after instead that all the spices will clear all around.
-Install a machine that measures the right quantity of the spices and other powders so everything will be precise instead of adding them manually. control of the ingredients.

ReplyDeleteThe youtube that I watched was a bit old so some technological improvements probably already occurred (example: They could control the pressure of the gusher through computers and not workers since a human being is less accurate than a machine and probably costs more).
On the long term:
They should start to convert the refinery to make it "greener" since regulations are going to be ever year more harsher and if you don't do this by time you are going to be out of the market (zero productivity)
On the short term:
Workers on the field seemed to work hard but still be happy and the way they related (as a family) makes me think of a great place to work (good wages,good colleague...) so I would definitely not cut their wages or the number of employees.
Maybe a way to reduce cost could be to expand the pipeline system. It would consist in a huge investment in order to reduce the cost of tanker and oil ships.

ReplyDeleteI think in order to improve the productivity of pencil making the manufacturer should first look into new material, this particular manufacturer is in Germany and its material comes from California. If he could find a supplier closer to home the company could produce at a faster rate. Also the wood comes into the factory in pre measured panels, the company could improve the productivity if these panels also came cut, as the first step of the production is to cut lines in the wood and the machine only takes one panel at a time. Also these pencils take four coats of paint and the machines only take one pencil at a time, if they could combine those actions better, they could improve their production.

ReplyDeleteThe Lego factory works 24 hours, it is almost 100% automated and it takes under 10 seconds to melt, shape and spill out a Lego. Having said this, it is difficult to find a way in which we can increase the productivity. However, there are two things I would do:
- Firstly, I would suggest that instead of using robotic cars that transport Lego boxes from one room to another, they could hire people. In my opinion, having robotic cars costs a lot. Their maintenance is pricey (a group of engineers would have to look after them) and if any if these cars would break, the cost of fixing it would be very high.
- And secondly, instead of having 120 designers to come up with new ideas, they should let customers suggest ideas on their webpage of what Lego should look like. This way, the process of thinking and trying to find new ideas would become shorter.

Following the market survey I would decrease the number of flavors and colours, following the costumers habits and wants. By decreasing the numbers of inputs, in fact, I can increase the productivity. 1)As far as i'm concerned, i think that the productivity of drinking water could be increased reducing the number of steps that the water needs to pass throw. For example, it could be possible to increase the number of employees that take care of the different phases. First of all, some machines could be improved: the time used to dry pasta can be reduced using more a efficient equipment; also a better packaging could increase the productivity, maybe using less plastic for each confection. The human capital is almost zero, so it is quite impossible to increase the productivity in this case. Some resources could be used for the intellectual capitals, so that system and procedures can be more efficient, as well as researches could lead to new, more advanced technologies.
I chose how is made olive oil –video. In the video, I saw the traditional (old version) way to make the olive oil and the modern way to make it.
ReplyDeleteWith the traditional (old version) way to make the olive oil, the workers harvest the olive by hands. It could take up to 1 day compare to the new technological machines. When the olive being cold pressed, the workers are using their hands to layer out the olive on mats and then place them on a pumper machine. I think to increase the productivity in this organization, the environment for the workers should be improved. The workers are in tough work conditions and they should be provided individual work clothes/uniforms, comfortable work shoes and professional hand gloves (hygienic reasons). The organization should invest on machines to cold pressed the olive – so we can minimize the employees. Workers should be educated as needed about the organization and how machines work. A better and positive workplace environment for the workers means more productivity for the company. The organization should use technological machines to harvest the olives so the productivity can increase.

But, anyway I think that we should train employees to make them experts and build more structures that facilitate the growth of grapes in temperate structures.
Regarding how is made Tabasco, i suggest the company to invest on new machineries that allow to effectuate a faster selection and harvest of the peppers because of its long and hard labour on the field. I also may suggest new barrels for the peppers. Nevertheless i believe that in this firm what really makes the tabasco a great quality product are not the machineries but the human and intellectual capital so the workers knowledge and the ability to select the perfect peppers. Another fundamental factor is the land where the peppers are grown, it needs the right care and manure to achieve the best growth for the peppers.

ReplyDeleteIn order to increase the productivity I suppose that this company should invest in new, modern and sophisticated machinery able to develop specific steps faster than humans (for instance they could build/buy a machinery in order to press large amounts of papers or build a overheated room where paper can dry faster).
The company could also invest in human capital in order to find new chemical (non-polluting) ways to produce special and original types of paper. Using this special paper for a advertisments could be also a good idea in order to increase their productivity.
Organize courses and exhibitions that show to the people how to produce paper (a very ancient job) could be really interesting and profitable.
In blog 3, I talked about the production of orange juice. According to me, to increase the productivity of materials, the firm could sell the pils of oranges, containing a great part of flavor, to other enterprises which produce perfumes, soaps or shampoos. The productivity of workers could be increased with some courses of preparation where they understand the importance of their task for the realization or the final product. In the third blog I talked about the Lego factory. Considering the statistics displayed in the video I agree with their kind of process because the machinaries, which are entirely replacing all the workers in the very first part, can produces 1.7 million of bricks in just one hour. The first part is totally mechanical and human workers are just designated to selection, carriage and sorting. However very often happens that customers find out some flawed pieces in their brand new lego toys. To solve this problem the company could hire new specialized supervisors which can control step by step with an appropriate software the work of the machinaries. This idea could enhance the quality of the product but at the same time could slow down the production, but considering the big numbers offered by the factory should be a little well-considered sacrifice to do.

It is difficult to say how such company could increase productivity, but increasing the human partecipation and supervision of the products I believe is the only thing that could improve the quality of the final product.

- The steam that soft the ball to make it easier to maipulate should be containning more than one ball per time so that the production goes on faster.
- The number of the employeers that tight the ball's laces up and that turn the ball inside out should be increased in order to give more speed to the production.
I talked about “How to make Nutella” and, in my opinion, there is not so much to do to increase their productivity. Maybe they can increase it by controlling all the stages of production and see how many errors are made by man, machines and materials, so that they can intervene and decrease the error.

In other words, they should know their value in the company. They must feel important in order to give their maximum. Also, to be efficient, the worker should take a break every 2 hours (this way he/she will be more concentrated thus more productive).
On the other hand, if I focus on how to increase the productivity of the materials, I should buy new technology and/or decrease the production (this will not decrease my profit because we all know that in every supermarket there are products in expiry date plus if there is greater demand for my product i will receive greater revenue hence i will be able to do more of my production)

ReplyDeleteThe Lego's employees don't make machineries run but just assemble Lego in order to build models, in fact they are called designers and they are a small group of 120 people. In their job the first need is the creativity so to improve their productivity I would let them go around the world to see more things to open their mind, to smell new flavours and to discover new culture. In the industry instead I would create a giant relax room where anyone has his white empty spot that they can use as they want to, bring whatever they want, to feel that place like home. Another thing I would do is a tournament or games where the winner is who builds the most beautiful model or the same model for all in less time.

Also I think that people are not motivated to work in this type of factory since there is a large use of chemicals, are probably a good incentive to workers would be an adequate health insurance that could cover any possible future decease.
